Re-vamping the furniture - Once you pop you just can't stop
I seem to have painted pretty much anything wooden I could get my hands on over the last few months. Two cans of paint and some wood stain later, we've got re-vamped furniture in every room.
We live in a small cottage and have some really lovely pieces of furniture inherited from my family, but they are all quite bulky or Ikea plain. So I decided to brighten the room up a bit by just painting the legs of the dining table (much to the dismay of my father who's a 'wood should be left as wood' type of chap).
There's nothing revolutionary, it's the backbone of any furniture re-vamp store anywhere so no brain power needed. As always I forgot to take a before picture, but here's the end result.
The top was already waxed, so no need to touch that.
A trick my mum learnt from a furniture restorer is to use Aldi washing up liquid to clean any wax treated pine before sanding and painting. It worked great, this is just one coat of paint.

It came out pretty well I think and I know it's cliche to say but it really did make the room feel bigger. Just lifting that heavy shadow from the table made such a difference.
That was it then, I was Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen so with paint brush in hand I next attack a small Ikea butchers block we'd just bought off a local Facebook group for £30. The plan is to use this as a changing table when the baby comes. In true ditzy-bid-happy Pippa-land I forgot to measure before I bought it, so the top was a couple of inches too long to fit in between the bath and the loo. Ever to the rescue Lu stepped in and trimmed it down - he's going to use the off cuts to put round the edges later as a bumper, but for now it can stay as is.
I really liked the Dove grey paint and there was loads left, so on it went. The top was untreated so I also gave that a coat or two of Beeswax. It's such a perfect fit (thanks to Lu's earlier rescue mission)
